The Basics (Passwords, Sharing Files etc)

Password Management - We all forget our passwords now and then, to help make the process of recovering your Google account much easier, we would recommend adding a recovery email address or password. Parents could add their email address as a recovery email for their child's Google account. To find out how to add recovery details to your google account watch this video. To find out how to recover your password using your recovery details watch this video. If you did not set recovery details, an admin will need to reset your password for you. For fully managed Schools ICT customers, you can contact us using the details on the "support" page.

Google Drive is an integral element to G-suite and Classroom. All your files and assignments are stored within it and you can make engaging lessons and resources using tools such as Google Docs, Slides, Sheets and Forms. Google Classroom is your digital classroom where you can create and set assignments, communicate and collaborate with your students and provide feedback on their work. Google Meet (Live Teaching and webinars/Streams)

The best and safest way to use Google Meet with your pupils is through your classroom and not by sending out Meet links or putting them in the calendar.

Before starting to use Meet, it is important to check that your G-suite Administrator has configured it so pupils can only join calls and not create their own.

As a teacher in your classroom, it is important to remember to be the first person in the call and the last one out. This ensures that you become the 'owner' of that call. This is especially important when recording a call because the recorded file is saved in the Drive of the call owner.

  1. Keep the Meet link in the banner, hidden from the pupils until you are ready for them join the call.

  2. The teacher clicks on the banner link whilst it is still hidden and joins the call.

  3. Click on the shield on the bottom left hand corner and turn on/of as necessary. Turning 'Quick Access' on or off allows you to have control over when the pupils are allowed into the call.

  4. Go back into the class settings and make the link visible so that the pupils can enter.

  5. If you have turned 'Quick Access' off, you will be able to grant them entry as they join the call.

Converting Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)

Convert Office documents to Google Drive documents - If you want to add existing Word or PowerPoint files to your assignments, it would be a good idea to convert them to their G-suite equivalent so that you can get the most from their features and interactivity. This video explains how to convert documents.
